As part of our Cancer Journey series, we spoke to former patient, Lisa Jane, about her Breast Cancer diagnosis and treatment.

A Breast Cancer Diagnosis

“In 2020 I was diagnosed with Breast cancer, I underwent a double mastectomy followed by chemo and radiation.

I was lucky enough to be able to have my treatment with Dr Andrew Hill and the Tasman Health Care team.

Breast Cancer Treatment

I was given the option to try the cold cap, to freeze and save my hair follicles as I was receiving treatment, it was like a massive brain freeze.

I started with straight long hair and the cold cap gave me the option to try and keep it. In the end, I think I only lost about 15% of hair. Surprisingly my hair grew back curly, but I now embrace my crazy curls!

Tips for Getting through Chemotherapy

During my treatment, I would try and meditate, sleep or just relax, with therapy dog Alex. The beautiful care I received from the nurses and doctors made going through treatment as best it could be.”
